Appraiser Careers
Competencies -- the characteristics and behaviours that people need to demonstrate in performing the duties of an appraiser -- are used as the basis for selecting appraisers at BC Assessment.
To assess these competencies, we use a three-step process:
For Appraiser Trainee, Appraiser I and Appraiser II:
- All qualified candidates write a pre-screen test to evaluate their analytical thinking, judgement skills, written communication skills and computer skills specifically on MS Excel. This test can be conducted at various locations throughout the province or by special arrangements outside of BC.
- Those who pass the pre-screen test with 60% or more, and achieve a pass each question or competency, are invited to participate in a behavioural interview where the remaining competencies such as team skills and personal and professional effectiveness are assessed.
Applicants must achieve a minimum of 60% pass at the behavioral interview in order to be eligible for further consideration.
- Past Work Performance Reviews will be conducted on eligible candidates.
For Senior Appraiser:
- All qualified candidates write a pre-screen test to evaluate their theoretical knowledge, analytical thinking and judgement, ability to apply legal and legislation, written communication skills as well as computer skills.
- Those who pass the pre-screen test with 60% or more and achieve a minimum pass on each question or competency are invited to participate in a behavioral interview.
- The behavioral interview may be used to assess the remaining competencies such as team leadership, personal and professional effectiveness and customer focus through the use of questions at a face-to-face interview. Applicants must receive a minimum of 60 percent pass at the behavioral interview in order to be eligible for further consideration.
- Past Work Performance Reviews will be conducted on eligible candidates.
Information on preparing for a behavioural interview is available on this site.
