Competencies -- the characteristics and behaviours that people need to demonstrate in performing the duties of an appraiser -- are used as the basis for selecting appraisers at BC Assessment.
To assess these competencies, we use a three-step process:
For Appraiser Trainee, Appraiser I and Appraiser II:
For Senior Appraiser:
1. All qualified candidates write an exercise that is conducted either before or after the behavioural interview. The written exercise may be used to evaluate their theoretical knowledge, analytical thinking and judgement, knowledge and ability to apply legal and legislation, written communication skills as well as computer skills. Generally, the written exercise accounts for 40 percent of the overall score.
2. The behavioural interview may be used to assess the remaining competencies such as team leadership, personal and professional effectiveness and customer focus through the use of questions at a face-to-face interview. The remaining 60 percent of the overall score will be weighted towards this portion. Applicants must receive a minimum of 60 percent in each step of the recruitment process in order to be eligible for further consideration.
3. Past Work Performance Reviews will be conducted on top candidates.
Information on preparing for a behavioural interview is available on this site.
